All you need is love.
I love the Beatles. I love their music.
But they are hardly original.
The popular song "All You Need is Love" released in July of 1967 was certainly a hit and is well known to this day. But despite the catchy tune and shear genius of the Beatles instrumental and vocal abilities, it was not "new" news.
Two thousand years ago the contributing author of most of the New Testament, Paul, informed us that of faith, hope, and love that LOVE was the greatest (see 1 Corinthians 13:13). The Messiah Himself of course perpetuated this Truth when He walked the earth, seeking to show, speak, and share love with all those that He encountered.
Love is important.
Songs are written, plays are penned, movies are scripted... all around this rather popular and basic concept.
And yet. It is HARD to love people.
Because people mess up.
People fail.
People intentionally hurt
The human race does not have the most redeeming qualities.
We lie, cheat, and steal.
We cause pain, encourage dishonesty, and intentionally destroy.
We are a hot mess. Seriously.
I know... this seems to be a quite discouraging blog.
But the truth is the truth.
I know you struggle with it too.
You may have those that you love, but there are times when they make it difficult to do so. Perhaps you never really "unlove" them, but certainly some days require more work than others.
And yet....
Yet, yet, yet.
Isn't it amazing to know that God never "unloves" us?
Imagine how annoying we are with our constant whining and complaining.
We are demanding and selfish.
But Scripture tells us that God will never leave us or forsake us, that His love never fails. My favorite verse that reminds us that NOTHING can separate us from the love of God says in Romans 8:37-39, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord"
The Beatles said "all you need is love".
And though John Lennon was nowhere near bigger than Jesus, he was able to grasp a very Biblical perspective, that love is truly all you need.
I don't know if tonight you are feeling loved or struggling with giving love to someone else. But I offer you encouragement right now that there is a God that loves you and there is nothing that you can say or do that would make Him take that love away from you.
And that my friends IS bigger than the Beatles!
Ahhhh....a Katie sermon. Love your blog (and you too!!) :)
